Company Timeline
Early 1930s - When earning almost any kind of a living became an accomplishment, Frank Hobbs begins selling a product known as colfonite, a masonite wallboard product.
Early 1940s - Hobbs forms a company called Colotyle in Seattle and begins manufacturing aluminum extrusion.
1946 - Hobbs forms Colotrym as a demand begins to emerge for moldings. Face metals, coving, staircase metal, carpet bar and other shapes are added—all manufactured with extruded aluminum, which begins to find a market as a cost-effective alternative to stainless steel.
1950s - Colotrym moves its operations to Seattle and installs its own 750-ton extrusion press.
1964 - Bob Hansberger purchases the fast-growing Colotrym company and adds it to his business, Futura.
1970 - With sales doubling since 1964, Colotrym establishes a distribution warehouse in Clearfield, Utah to make delivery to California and Midwestern states more efficient.
Colotrym installs an additional new 1,000-ton extrusion press in the Seattle plant. By 1975, sales nearly double again.
1976 - A second manufacturing plant is established in Clearfield.
1979 - Colotrym moves all manufacturing operations to Clearfield to take advantage of the facility’s efficiencies and the excellent Utah business climate. The company name is officially changed to Futura.
To this day, operations continue to flow from Clearfield, Utah to customer locations throughout the world.
